Often, trails, quiz sheets and activities are on offer for older children. Around Bristol, we're spoilt for choice, the latest Trust acquisition being Tyntesfield. The National Trust website is superb, making planning a day out effortless.
Four personal family favourites which are all somewhat over an hour’s drive from Bristol (but still well worth a day trip) are as follows:
Stourhead, Wiltshire (01747 841152). Superb landscaped garden with temples and mature woodland set around large lake.
Avebury, Wiltshire (01672 539250). A huge megalithic stone circle encompassing part of the village of Avebury.
Dunster Castle, Somerset (01643 821314). Impressive castle atop a wooded hill set in attractive gardens.
Hidcote Manor Garden (01386 438333). A gorgeous garden designed as a series of outdoor rooms. (Further details of all 4 properties available on our website).
(Becoming a member of the National Trust may well prove cost effective if you plan to visit several properties during the year).
