Trips run from end Mar-Oct, tide and weather dependent. Call or see website for times. Arrive 30 mins before departure. U4's not permitted, due to life jacket restrictions. All trips depart from Channel View Leisure Centre in Cardiff Bay aboard the Lewis Alexander and the crossing takes about 50 minutes.  Visit this tiny island in the Bristol Channel on a short day trip giving you 3 hours on Flat Holm. The crossing takes 30 minutes. Note that all trips are weather dependent and the boat ride is unsuitable for children under five due to life jacket restrictions. Since the Dark Age the island has been used as a retreat for monks, then as a sanctuary for Vikings, Anglo Saxons, smugglers and cholera victims. Fortified in Victorian times and WW2, it is now a haven for wildlife, home to a large colony of gulls, shelducks, slow worms, goats and sheep to keep the grass mown and plenty of tame rabbits. The Flat Holm Project was set up to encourage visitor access and manages the island as a Local Nature Reserve. Best to take a picnic as tuck shop only sells snacks.
